ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The family of a missing woman found dead last week in Maryland Heights are planning to lay her to rest.Jacquelyn Mitchell's sister, Tiffany, said her family is processing this devastating loss one day at a time. She wants “Jacque” to be remembered as a good person and a friend to everyone."She loved everybody. She was the life of the party. You could be at the end of a family event, she'd be the last one there,” Tiffany said. “She was such a sweet and caring person, would not hurt a soul. So this whole thing is just, it's tragic. It's horrific, and I don't wish that upon anybody, and nobody deserves this, especially Jacque." Elehuris Montero arrived at spring training with a lot to prove. The Rockies’ rookie has done that — and then some.Montero, 24, not only won the starting third-base job, but he also showed that he might be primed to be a high-impact player.Montero launched his team-leading fifth home run of the Cactus League on Sunday in Colorado’s 7-5 loss to Cincinnati. His latest wallop was a 428-foot, two-run blast in the fourth inning. Montero has slashed .328/.381/.621 in 21 Cactus League games with two doubles and a team-high 12 RBIs.On Saturday, he was presented with the Abby Greer Award as spring training’s MVP.Montero, part of the Nolan Arenado trade with the Cardinals prior to the 2021 season, arrived at camp with a two-fold missing: improve his footwork around third base and handle breaking pitches better.“The more he works, the better his footwork is getting,” new infield coach Warren Schaeffer said. “For me, it’s just a matter of him defe...Gun reforms pass Colorado House after Democrats limit Republican filibuster
Published Fri, 27 Dec 2024 09:38:02 GMT
Colorado lawmakers passed two gun reform bills Sunday after three days of Republican filibustering that only ended after House Democrats dusted off a rarely used rule to accelerate votes and end what they described as stall tactics. The two passed bills would expand the state’s red-flag law and make it easier to file lawsuits against gun manufacturers and dealers. The measures will head to Gov. Jared Polis‘s desk in the coming days, provided House and Senate Democrats resolve changes made between the two chambers. The measures’ passage and the tense debate around them came after hundreds of Denver students and teachers descended upon the Capitol to demand legislation to address gun violence in the wake of yet another school shooting here.It was that call for action that animated Democrats’ speeches throughout the weekend’s debates. They said the bills would allow for better mental health interventions while removing Colorado-specific protections for gun ...Presale Codes for Nick Cave North America Tour with Colin Greenwood

Actor turned writer/director Zach Braff must’ve gleaned some nuggets of wisdom after directing shows like Shrinking and Ted Lasso because in his latest effort, A Good Person, he’s managed to align his brand of hipster wisdom and weepy psychology into something engaging and, dare we say, genuine? Dealing with themes such as grief, addiction and redemption, Braff’s third writing and directorial effort utilizes tropes he’s used in his other films: an indie pop music soundtrack, navel-gazing characters, and teary confessions. This time, he doesn’t stumble into silly scenarios (like characters screaming into an “infinite abyss” to unburden themselves in the mysteriously beloved Garden State), or basically anything from 2014’s Wish I Were Here– a self-indulgent mess that put Braff in hot water due to its problematic Kickstarter campaign.Braff’s syrupy earnestness is still on display here, and it still grates a bit, but this time the characters feel like they’re speaking for themselves, no...Wood shines in final tuneup, but Kapler remains mum on SF Giants rotation plans

OAKLAND – Alex Wood looks ready for the start of the regular season. Now with Opening Day just days away, it’s just a question of where he’ll slot in the Giants’ rotation.Wood allowed three hits and struck out 10 over 5 1/3 innings Sunday as the Giants beat the A’s 9-5 in the first game of the exhibition Bay Bridge Series at the Coliseum. Wood used a 90-91 mph sinker to record five strikeouts, and a low-80s slider to pick up the other five. The Giants play the A’s again Monday at Oracle Park then travel to the Bronx to face the New York Yankees for a season-opening three-game series that starts Thursday. Manager Gabe Kapler said the Giants have “a good feel” for what the rotation will be for the series, which continues with games next Saturday and Sunday, but that he wasn’t ready to make an announcement beyond Logan Webb’s start Thursday.Certainly Wood’s performance Sunday is an encouraging sign that he’s ready to go, in whichever way the rotation question plays out.“Just about all c...Athletics, manager Mark Kotsay return home determined to put 102-loss season in rear-view mirror

OAKLAND — Opening Night beckons so optimism was rampant Sunday.Even when the team is the Athletics, who finished 46 games out of first place. A 60-102 record was good for last place in the American League West and led to worst home attendance in Major League Baseball with an average of 9,973.So what does A’s manager Mark Kotsay hope to see in 2023 at the most maligned home venue in professional sports?“We’d love the opportunity to fill this place up,” Kotsay said Sunday before the Giants beat the A’s 9-5. “There’s no better place to play in front of a full stadium than the Oakland Coliseum. I know that. I’ve experienced that.”The Coliseum was far from full Sunday, and a good portion of the crowd of 11,325 was there to see the Giants and not the A’s.A’s starter Ken Waldichuk gets a new ball after giving up a three-run home run to the Giants’ David Villar in the second inning Sunday at the Coliseum.
