ST. LOUIS -- A local teacher returns as a Jeopardy! contestant today. Emily Fiasco, the assistant band director at Buerkle Middle Bobcats and Washington Middle School Mehlville, was invited to play the Champions Wildcard Tournament. She will be on the show today.Emily FiascoFiasco had a winning 4-day run on the show in 2022. She won three of those days and took home over $88,000, plus she was an alternate for the 2022 Tournament of Champions."Not sure how I’ve gotten so lucky, but I was invited back to Jeopardy to participate in their Champions Wildcard tournament! So, for the fourth time (which is still so wild to consider) I headed out to Culver City to spend more time on the Alex Trebek Stage. Per usual, the experience was incredibly fun and I got to meet a great group of people who were somehow more supportive, kind, and fun than they are good at trivia… and that’s saying something!" Every time the three educators-in-training leave Denver’s Green Valley Elementary School, students ask when they will be back. They invite the three men to basketball practice and games. The students get excited to see them during special events like Trunk-or-Treat — and not just because they give big handfuls of candy. In short, Joshua Barringer, Christopher Livingston, and Jordan Puch have become very popular. That may be in part because Green Valley students — most of whom are Black and Hispanic — often don’t get to interact with Black male teachers like Barringer, Livingston, and Puch.“They love us. They always want to come up to us and give us a hug,” Barringer said. “It’s just amazing how the kids click with us and we only got here but so long ago.”Read more at Chalkbeat Colorado.Chalkbeat is a nonprofit news site covering educational change in public schools.Get more Colorado news by signing up for our Mile High Roundup email newsletter.Related ArticlesEducation | ...Nuggets coach Michael Malone agrees to contract extension with Denver

The Nuggets and ninth-year coach Michael Malone agreed to a multiyear contract extension Monday, The Denver Post has learned.According to a report from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the deal will make Malone “one of the league’s highest paid coaches.” The exact terms of the contract have not been disclosed. However, Malone’s previous deal, signed in March 2022, had at least one remaining year after 2023-24, meaning the new deal will keep him in Denver through at least 2026-27.Malone, 52, led Denver to the first NBA championship in franchise history in 2022-23, his eighth season at the helm after a prior brief stint in Sacramento. He is the fourth longest-tenured head coach in the league, behind San Antonio’s Gregg Popovich, Miami’s Eric Spoelstra and Golden State’s Steve Kerr — a trio of coaches who have each led their respective teams to six NBA Finals appearances.Malone ranks third in Nuggets history for career games coached (647)...The Return of Calamity Cameron

David Cameron? Remember him? The honest answer for many in the EU leadership would be “How could we ever forget him; however hard we have tried”. Yes, the man who subjected the European Council to an extended period when he seemed to think the UK’s concerns were the only subject they should ever consider is back. What should they make of the former Prime Minister’s appointment as Britain’s Foreign Secretary, asks Political Editor Nick Powell. His interminable whinges over dinner in Brussels enabled David Cameron to claim that the European Council had listened to Britain’s concerns, even as the rest of the EU28 kept other issues at the top of their agenda. He himself referred to the Council meetings as “another day in paradise”. An example perhaps of the famed British sense of humour as he turned mealtimes into hell.It was all in vain of course. He bizarrely thought that telling the voters back home he was in a constant struggle with those beastly continentals would somehow persuade h...Judge from O.J. Two familiar names from the murder trial of O.J. Simpson are back in the news again.Retired Judge Lance Ito, who presided over 1994's “Trial of the Century,” has endorsed Christopher Darden for a seat on the Los Angeles County Superior Court, his campaign announced on Monday.Darden, 67, was a lead prosecutor in the Simpson case along with Marcia Clark. The former NFL running back and actor was ultimately acquitted of murdering his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend, Ron Goldman, but a jury found him liable for their deaths in a civil lawsuit three years later. Before Ito became a judge, he and Darden worked together as prosecutors in the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office's “Hard Core Gangs” unit, according to his campaign.“I have always had tremendous respect for Judge Lance Ito. As a prosecutor, a Judge and retired jurist, Judge Ito has always conducted himself with the utmost professionalism and sets the standard for fairness on the bench,” Darden said in a sta...Metro, Metrolink expanding services in response to 10 Freeway closure

After a massive fire ripped through a storage yard underneath the 10 Freeway on Saturday and led to the roadway being closed indefinitely, Los Angeles public transit authorities are stepping up their services to help commuters. Angelenos are urged to avoid the area of the shutdown freeway, if possible. If you need to drive through downtown, give yourself extra time, officials said. Public transportation is also an option, and both Metro bus and train lines and Metrolink train lines are offering increased service. By Deidre McPhillips | CNNWomen in the United States can expect to live nearly six years longer than men, as disparities in deaths from Covid-19 and drug overdoses drive the life expectancy gap to the widest it’s been in decades.Overall, life expectancy in the US fell more than two and a half years since the start of the pandemic — down to 76.1 years in 2021, according to data from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Life expectancies for both men and women were affected, but not equally. The lifespan for women has been consistently longer than men, with the lowest difference of 4.8 years in 2010. But the gap grew by 0.2 years in the decade that followed and by 0.7 years in the first two years of the Covid-19 pandemic. With two weeks remaining and a slew of impact matchups on the schedule, there are dozens of scenarios in play for berths in the Pac-12 championship game, including a four-team tie.(A five-way deadlock also is possible, but we can’t contemplate that outcome without heads exploding.)Let’s keep things as simple as possible until Saturday night and offer three points:— Washington and Oregon are the only teams that control their own destiny. The Huskies would clinch a berth in Las Vegas this week with a victory at Oregon State or with a loss to the Beavers and losses by both Arizona and Oregon.— Oregon clinches a spot in the title game with a victory at Arizona State and an Arizona loss to Utah.— And keep in mind that two matchups not on the schedule, USC-Oregon State and Arizona-Oregon, could complicate matters because of the Pac-12 tiebreaker process, which uses head-to-head outcomes only if all the tied teams have played each other. To the power ratings ...Latest news
