SANTA CLARA — Brock Purdy does not look stressed. He is sitting in a folding chair at his locker, with Thursday’s practice script in one hand and his right foot propped up against the stall. He smiles while reminiscing about recent trips to the Jacksonville area, from offseason throwing sessions near Ponte Vedra Beach to last summer’s lake-side engagement to his fiancé.He takes the 49ers’ three-game losing streak quite seriously, mind you. But he also is taking a glass-half-full approach into Sunday’s game against the Jaguars, and he does so with a refreshed mind and body from last week’s bye.Sure, the 49ers (5-3) as a team definitely needed the break to recharge and recalibrate, including left tackle Trent Williams and wide receiver Deebo Samuel, both of whom practiced Thursday and should return from two-game absences. For Purdy, last week’s down time offered something new, seeing how last season’s bye came a month before he relieved Ji...Single-family house sells in Danville for $2.3 million

When San Jose’s 105th Veterans Day celebration takes place downtown Saturday, it’ll include all the familiar staples we associate with the event: a ceremony honoring those who serve in our armed forces and a parade filled with politicians waving from convertibles, veterans’ groups, marching bands, fleets of both classic cars and military vehicles and even a flyover from the Air National Guard Rescue Wing out of Moffett Field. But there’ll also be an “only in Silicon Valley” aspect to this year’s parade: The grand marshal isn’t a U.S. Army general or Navy admiral. It’s Douglas A. Beck, a former vice president at Apple for 14 years who now serves as the director of the Defense Innovation Unit, where he oversees the Department of Defense’s adoption of commercial technology. Of course, he’s also veteran, a decorated captain in the U.S. Navy Reserve who served in Iraq and Afghanistan in 2006-07 during his 26 years of milita...With latest acquisition, San Jose Sharks GM hints at rebuild’s timeline

SAN JOSE – The San Jose Sharks used 10 defensemen during the 2021-2022 season, the year before Mike Grier took over as the team’s general manager.Three are left in the organization, with Grier replacing the others in the last year with a handful of young blueliners. The new guys are all between 21 and 23 years old, and one doesn’t need to squint too hard to see they could form the nucleus of the Sharks’ defense corps later this decade.“You can kind of just tell from the age group of players that (Grier) is trying to accumulate or bring in that are in their early 20s,” Sharks center Nico Sturm said. “Probably (defensemen) hit their prime probably in their late 20s or early 30s. So, there’s a timeline further ahead.”The latest to be added by Grier is Calen Addison, who will be in the Sharks’ lineup Thursday when they play the Edmonton Oilers at SAP Center. Addison, 23, was acquired from the Minnesota Wild on Wednesday for winger Adam Raska and a 2026 fifth-round draft pick.Again...'Armed and dangerous': Pittsburg police search for homicide suspect
