AUSTIN (KXAN) — A man was sentenced to 12 years in state prison in connection with a fatal 2012 stabbing in southeast Austin.Travis County court documents said Hector Ramirez-Lopez pleaded guilty to murder, which was connected to the death of Randal Wells on April 28, 2012, in the 2400 block of Wickersham Lane. Authorities in Whittier are launching an investigation into a shooting that led to the abduction of a woman. According to the Whittier Police Department, officers responded to the parking stalls of Penn Park shortly after midnight on Sunday after a man reported that an armed suspect approached his vehicle -- occupied by him and a female passenger -- and fired gunshots in their direction. “The male witness ran from the location and upon his return, discovered blood near his vehicle and [that] his female companion was missing,” Whittier PD said. The missing female was identified as 19-year-old Andrea Vasquez. According to police, she is 5 feet, 3 inches tall, weighs 103 pounds and has brownish-red hair and brown eyes. Despite first aid, she died at the scene.Her parents, Ryan and Allegra Hatlen, believe she had nothing to do with the gunfire.“My daughter had her life cut short,” Ryan Hatlen said. “Stupid gun violence. (KRON) -- Hurricane Hilary has been downgraded to a "tropical storm" Sunday morning. However, the storm is playing a factor in many areas in and around Southern California.Although the Hilary is not directly impacting the Bay Area, flights going south are.
