MARION, Ill. (WTVO) – An Illinois man has been charged with theft after allegedly stealing a backhoe and driving about 10 miles to catch a flight at an airport.Deputies in Williamson County say they were alerted to the alleged theft on May 18, following a call about a "suspicious" backhoe found parked in the lot at the Veterans Airport of Southern Illinois."A few moments later the owner of the backhoe arrived on scene and identified the equipment as belonging to his company," the Williamson County Sheriff's Office wrote in a Facebook news release shared earlier this week.The owner of the equipment then told deputies the backhoe had been parked nearly 10 miles away at a job site. Lanes shut down on north MoPac Expressway after crash, APD says

AUSTIN (KXAN) -- The Austin Police Department responded to a crash that is currently impacting traffic in north Austin, the agency said on Twitter.Shortly before 3:30 p.m., APD said officers were at the scene of the crash in the 10400 block of North MoPac Expressway. All southbound lanes were shut down.According to the Texas Department of Transportation, Lanes 1-4 were all blocked, which includes the three main lanes and the shoulder.The crash was confirmed at approximately 2:52 p.m., according to TxDOT.This is a developing story. Hutto expects more growth as economic interest soars

HUTTO, Texas (KXAN) — Economic leaders in Hutto said announcements on businesses coming to the area could be shared as soon as the end of this summer.Bob Farley, economic development director, said interest in Hutto has grown in recent months as support industries to the Samsung semiconductor plant in Taylor look to plant roots ahead of the plant's anticipated opening late next year.He said he is not at liberty to say what businesses could be coming to the area just yet but said that plans were in the works.Farley said economic developments also continue in the city's Co-Op District which most recently welcomed a new Top Notch Hamburgers location.He said several more restaurants are set to open their doors in the still-developing district within the next year."Our city manager has just finished some negotiations with the developer of the Co-op and so there are going to be some additional things happening over the course of the next nine months. City names new interim director of Police Oversight

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The City of Austin announced the appointment of the new interim director of Police Oversight.According to a city memo, Gail McCant will fill the role beginning June 5.Interim City Manager Jesús Garza said McCant had more than 25 years of experience enforcing civil rights, human rights and employee rights. According to the police, Victor Demarco, 65, was last seen on May 11. Get the latest, news, weather, sports and community events delivered right to your inbox! Police describe Demarco as 5'7'' and approximately 140 pounds with gray hair and brown eyes. Demarco's main mode of transportation is by bus. Police believe he may currently be in New York City.
