Becoming an actor or influencer has become the most desired career path for kids under the age of 17, because in our media-saturated world, this is where they can express themselves, show off their talents, and earn the opportunity to make money or gain fame. But how many real opportunities are out there for kids? The ratio for active profiles and job listings on Backstage is close to 700:1. Faced with these odds, many kids soon feel defeated, and parents are understandably frustrated. A lot of time and money are invested … without results. That’s often the reality of this industry. This is exactly why ClasShare built the FilmForKids community, a private community where we partner with educators, scriptwriters, filmmakers and industry professionals to create more opportunities for kids in films and commercials. Before now, that didn’t exist.ClasShare, an online learning platform, has launched its exclusive new digital community, FilmForKids. This collaborative opportunity lets educators...‘It’s so cold out there’: SF Giants relievers rejoice over new, heated benches in Oracle Park’s bullpens

SAN FRANCISCO — Unlike its new food offerings or enhanced WiFi network, one upgrade at Oracle Park was installed over the offseason without fanfare. It will likely go unnoticed by fans, but especially on a dark and damp home opener, it wasn’t overlooked by relievers in both bullpens.“It’s so cold out there,” reliever John Brebbia said.“Usually you’re down there with your jacket and beanie,” added lefty Scott Alexander.“I’m hearing rumors of a heated bench,” submariner Tyler Rogers said. “That would be nice, really nice.”Rejoice, relievers: Rogers heard right.A pair of 12-foot heated benches made their debut in the outfield bullpens Friday. Made by the same company that installed the sideline seating at Levi’s Stadium and more than 20 other NFL venues, frigid relievers on both clubs will now be able to plop down and warm up. While many ballparks that deal with weather conditions have climate-controlled rooms in their bullpen...How do you fly a plane if you suspect a venomous cobra is loose on board?

CAPE TOWN, South Africa (AP) — A pilot in South Africa made a hasty emergency landing after discovering a highly venomous cobra under his seat. And then he had to take off again without knowing if the creature was still on the plane.Rudolf Erasmus had four passengers on board the light aircraft during Monday’s flight out of Worcester when he felt “something cold” slide across his lower back. He glanced down to see the head of a fairly large Cape cobra “receding back under the seat,” he said.“It was as if my brain didn’t know what was going on,” he told the Associated Press. After taking a moment to compose himself, he informed his passengers of the stowaway.“There was a moment of stunned silence,” he said, but everyone stayed cool.Cape cobras, which can grow to about 5 feet, are one of Africa’s most dangerous cobra species because of the potency of their venom.Erasmus called air traffic control for permission to make an emergency landing in the town of Welkom, in central ...New San Jose hotel is eyed near future soccer complex, cricket pitch

SAN JOSE — A new and modern hotel with a high-profile brand could sprout in a San Jose industrial district a short distance from potential future cricket and soccer facilities, documents on file with city planners show.Fairfield Inn & Suites would be the brand of the new hotel, which would rise at 1669 Monterey Highway in San Jose, a few blocks away from the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds. The economic malaise that infected the lodging industry in the Bay Area and worldwide continues to sicken some hotel markets. But a hotel at this location, the high-profile nature of the Fairfield Inn brand, the property owner’s lodging experience and potential future sports proposals in the vicinity means that the project can make sense, in the view of Erik Schoennauer, a land-use consultant for the project’s developer.“The project applicants are long-time owners of this property and they are in the hotel business,” Schoennauer said. “Redeveloping this with a...SF Giants’ Haniger still in ‘early stages’ of recovery from oblique injury after back tightness delayed progress

SAN FRANCISCO — Outfielder Mitch Haniger is not expected to make his Giants debut this homestand, manager Gabe Kapler said before the team’s home opener at Oracle Park on Friday.Their highest-priced free-agent addition is more likely to make his debut during the club’s upcoming trip to Detroit and Miami starting April 14, Kapler said. However, Haniger said that he is still in the early stages of his rehab and will require a rehab assignment before he’s ready to join the big-league club.Haniger suffered an oblique injury in spring training and was placed on the 10-day injured list to start the season. He said Friday that back tightness interrupted his progress and provided a minor setback.“My back locked up for me right around the time the team left (spring training), so I had to put things on hold for a while,” he said. “But now I’m just kind of building up baseball activities and hopefully will start ramping things up here.”He said he had to get some medication to...BART trains stopping at Lafayette Station again following police activity

(KRON) -- The San Jose Police Officers’ Association fired its executive director in the wake of a drug smuggling scandal, union officials told KRON4 Friday. Joanne Marian Segovia, 64, was charged by the U.S. Department of Justice last week with illegally importing synthetic opioids, including fentanyl, to her San Jose home.Federal investigators said Segovia ordered thousands of opioids, used the police officers union's address for some mailing transactions, and re-distributed drugs across the country. The San Jose Police Officers’ Association announced Friday that it completed the first phase of its internal investigation into Segovia and terminated her employment. Joanne Marian SegoviaUnion president Sean Pritchard said, "The abhorrent criminal conduct alleged against Ms. Segovia must be the impetus to ensuring our internal controls at the POA are strong and that we enact any changes that could have identified the alleged conduct sooner."During her first court appearance on March 31...To Help End the Yemen War, All China Had to Do Was Be Reasonable

The war in Yemen looks like it’s coming to an end. U.S. media reported on Thursday that a cease-fire extending through 2023 had been agreed to, but those reports also included Houthi denials. On Friday, Al Mayadeen, a generally pro-Houthi Lebanese news outlet, reported optimism from the Houthi side that the deal is real and the war is winding down. Reuters later on Friday matched Al Mayadeen’s reporting, confirming that Saudi envoys will be traveling to Sana’a to discuss the terms of a “permanent ceasefire.”What’s startling here is the apparent role of China — and complete absence of the U.S. and President Joe Biden — in the deal-making.“Biden promised to end the war in Yemen. Two years into his presidency, China may have delivered on that promise,” said Trita Parsi, executive vice president of the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft. “Decades of militarized American foreign policy in the Middle East have enabled China to play the role of peacemaker while W...Israel’s Foreign Ministry says one person was killed and six wounded in an attack in Tel Aviv

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — A Delta Air Lines flight from Los Angeles to Atlanta resumed its flight Friday after being diverted to Oklahoma City a day earlier. The airline said in a statement that the flight was diverted “out of an abundance of caution due to an onboard medical issue.”Passengers told KOCO-TV that at least three flight attendants began feeling sick during the flight Thursday.“They told us they were having trouble breathing and that there was something about them being nauseous in heat,” passenger Emmy Kelly said. “They didn’t give us a ton of information.”“The head stewardess was actually having trouble breathing at some point,” another passenger, Greg Everett, said. “She was seated and using the oxygen mask.”Emergency Medical Services Authority spokesperson Adam Paluka said three people were transported by ambulance from the airport to a hospital.
