Police go door-to-door checking on seniors during heat wave ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – Officers with the North County Police Cooperative shifted their community policing efforts to making sure citizens are staying cool this week. It's something the department has done during extreme heat. FOX 2's Jeff Bernthal caught up with officers as they checked on residents Thursday. The good news is all the residents they checked on were staying cool. Police are able to connect anyone in need with resources to help.

Denver school board votes to support district’s firing of former McAuliffe International School principal Denver’s school board voted Thursday against reinstating a middle school principal who was fired after publicly speaking out about the district’s educators being required to check students for weapons.Denver Public Schools fired former McAuliffe International School Principal Kurt Dennis in July, months after he spoke out about school safety in a television interview after the March shooting at East High School in which a teen undergoing a weapons search shot and wounded two deans.The Board of Education voted 6-1 to support Superintendent Alex Marrero’s recommendation that Dennis be fired. Man arrested in connection with series of burglaries in Riverside, Rialto  A man was arrested for a string of commercial burglaries that occurred in the span of two days in Riverside, and further investigation linked him to other robberies in Rialto. According to a press release from the Riverside Police Department, four businesses in the Mission Grove and Orangecrest neighborhoods were broken into during the early mornings of July 19 and July 20. The break-ins occurred at Gra Pow Restaurant, a Cold Stone Creamery, Men’s Club Barbershop and Hollywood Threading, and detectives found that the suspect entered all four locations through the ceilings and got away with tens of thousands of dollars in cash and jewelry. Due to their similar nature, investigators concluded that all four of the burglaries were likely committed by the same suspect, police said. Michael Sturm captured on surveillance video at Gra Pow Restaurant in Riverside. Hayward BART station briefly closed due to report of person possibly hit by train HAYWARD – BART on Thursday briefly closed its Hayward station following a report of a person possibly hit by a train.The person’s condition was not immediately known.The station was closed at 5:53 p.m. for an investigation, said BART spokesperson Chris Filippi. Trains were allowed to run through but not stop at the station, while buses provided an alternative means of transportation.The station reopened around 6:45 p.m., Filippi said. Suspects steal packages from FedEx truck in Daly City: police (KRON) -- A number of packages were stolen from a FedEx truck last Friday Aug. 18, according to the Daly City Police Department (DCPD). Around 5:33 p.m. on Westdale Avenue, a FedEx employee was delivering packages when a white Honda Accord drove up to the truck. IKEA store evacuated during SF grand opening The driver of the Accord, which had tinted windows and no license plate, stayed in the car. Police said two other suspects entered the FedEx truck and took multiple packages. The FedEx employee realized the suspects were stealing the packages and approached the suspects. One of the suspects ran back to the Honda, but the other suspect punched the employee, police said. The employee was injured, but the severity is unknown. All suspects were able to drive away in the Honda. DCPD said they went westbound on Westdale Avenue. DCPD did not release any further information about this incident.
